MISSION

STATEMENT FROM CHRIS TAYLOR

The Blue Devil Fund is a not-for-profit organization in Calais, Maine founded by Chris Taylor (2007 Calais High grad) in 2010, that utilizes the game of basketball to sponsor and raise money for various charitable efforts throughout our hometown community. 

 With the motto, “From Assists On The Court. To Assists In The Community.”, The Blue Devil Fund strives to lend a helping hand to neighbors in need and champion positive initiatives in the Downeast area. Our sponsored programs include the Bouncin’ Blue Devils, the Back(pack) 2 School initiative, the Holiday Book Drive, among others. Our main fundraiser is the annual Alumni

Basketball Classic held over International Homecoming Festival; which includes both a Lady Blue Devil and Blue Devil alumni game. Former Blue Devil “greats of the game” show they still have what it takes to compete on the hardwood in a fun-filled evening for the entire family with raffles, prizes and music – with all profits being donated to local charities.

Bouncing Blue Devils

Proudly co-sponsored with Calais JMG, Bouncin’ Blue Devils is a free after school program offered to Calais Elementary School Students (Grades K-2), designed to provide an opportunity for young students to develop early basketball skills, work

develop early basketball skills, work on fundamentals, and inspire a love for the game. Coached by members of the boys & girls Calais High School Varsity Basketball Teams, the program benefits both the elementary students, while learning about the game, and the high school students, while they develop teaching skills and an appreciation of giving back to the community.

Back Pack Initiative

The Back(pack) 2 School initiative provides backpacks filled with school supplies for local elementary school students. In our inaugural campaign, we were fortunate to hand out 100 backpacks and hope to grow with each school year!

Holiday Books

We believe reading plays such a pivotal role in a child’s development, and local teachers and administrators do such a wonderful job developing our area’s youth. With this in mind, we wanted to say a combined ‘thank you’ to the teachers and ‘great work’ to the students with special gifts – so we donated almost 1000 books to a selection of Washington County Elementary Schools for our inaugural Holiday Book Drive.
